Australia Day – January 2010 Report

By admin | 25/01/2010

Hi Culture Linkers,

Well another Culture Link event has come and gone and what a great day we had. Thank you for your enthusiasm and energy!  The lesson went very well especially the spirited involvement in the Two-up game. It was also great to see the interest generated by the Australian books supplied courtesy of the Australian embassy.  It really is a great country, although I am biased, and offers many opportunities for education.

Quite a few of you told me how much you enjoyed the day, learning about Australia and then getting down with a good old fashioned game of Aussie Rules.  I am happy to say, GO CARLTON, that the student team of the same name defeated the SYDNEY SWANS student team by 29 -16. Congratulations to the top bloke goal-scorer, Nguyen TranTian and the top sheila goal-scorer, Nguyen The Lan Ngoc.

It was great to see you all getting into the spirit of Australia Day and the thong toss competition.  The female winner tossed the old ‘flip flop’ a mighty 19 yards while the male winner threw the rubber Frisbee 34 yards.  Impressive work guys!

Congratulations to all our winners and I hope you are happy with your prizes, especially the goodies brought back from Australia by Elaine.  Thanks and great to see her back at Culture Link.

I see from the website that some people are already making enquiries about the February event.  The theme is Valentines Day and will be held on Sunday February 21st.  So buy your tickets early, tell your friends and I’ll see you there.
