THE LANGUAGE LINK IELTS PROGRAMME

| >> Introduction: |
From June 2009 Language Link Vietnam introduces its new IELTS courses as part of the overall Language Link EAP [English for Academic Purposes] programme. Please refer to the English for Academic Success and the International Foundation Year web-pages for more information on the elements of this programme, which guides students to appropriate levels of Academic English for study both overseas and at international university campuses in Vietnam and includes accreditation from and access to universities and educational organisations in the U.K. and Australia.
Our IELTS courses are currently offered at two levels ad both courses cover the full range of skills and test practice for students at their appropriate level:-
1. The IELTS Academic Course
2. The IELTS General Course

| 1. The IELTS Academic Course: |
| This course is for students who are already at a good Upper Intermediate level of English proficiency and who wish to achieve a Band 6 + in the Academic Module of the IELTS test. Throughout the course the skills & technique focus for the Reading & Writing papers is on the Academic Module of the IELTS, with an equal focus on the middle & higher level elements of the Listening & Speaking elements of the Test. |
| 2. The IELTS General Course: |
| This course is for students who are at an Intermediate level of English proficiency and who are seeking to achieve a band 4.5 – 5.5 in the General Module of the IELTS in order to work abroad or for an organisation in Vietnam that requires an appropriate IELTS level. Throughout the course the skills & technique focus for the Reading & Writing papers is on the General Module of the IELTS, with parallel focus on consolidating the basic skills for achieving the desired levels in the Listening & Speaking elements of the Test. For the IELTS General Course there is also time allowed within the course materials and timetable for reviewing specific prioritised grammar areas and extending vocabulary in the practical classroom context of producing spoken and written English for the Test. |
Both courses consists of 52 classroom hours, including progress and final tests focusing on Test technique & timing, plus two full practice Speaking tests, during the course. There is also the opportunity to take elements of four additional assessed IELTS Practice Tests staged during the course through self-access in the Resource Centre.
Given the time-frame, extended self-study [with the associated disciplines of self-timing & self-review] is also an integral part of the course and all participants must commit themselves to this essential aspect of language development, through using the workbook, recommended reading/listening materials, both in the Resource Centre and on the internet, and accessing additional recommended audio-visual resources from [e.g.] the internet and international television.
